On this page, I have gathered the questions divers and students ask me most often about ocean diving in Cancun, cenote cavern diving, PADI courses, equipment, safety, and basic logistics. My goal is to give you clarity before you book, so you can focus on enjoying the water and learning. Do I need previous experience to dive?
No. You can dive without certification with the Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program. An instructor goes with you the entire time and teaches you the basics before entering the water.
Do I need to swim perfectly?
You don’t need to be a professional swimmer, but you do need basic swimming skills, to feel comfortable in the water, and to be able to float.
What equipment is included for diving?
Includes:
- Regulator
- Buoyancy Control Device (BCD)
- Wetsuit
- Mask and fins
How long does a dive last?
Each dive lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on air consumption and sea conditions.
What depth do you reach?
- Beginners: 8–12 meters
- Certified: up to 18–30 meters depending on level
- Everything is adapted to your experience.
What certification level is required to dive in a cenote?
- Cavern dive (From Open Water)
- Cave dive (technical certification as a cave diver is mandatory)
Which cenote are we going to dive?
- Each cenote is different (light, halocline, formations, depth).
- Some of the cenotes we visit most are Chikin ha, 2 ojos, el pit and for advanced divers zapote (hells bells) and maravila
What equipment is included?
It includes:
- Primary flashlight
- Full equipment with a full-length wetsuit
What experience does the cenote guide have?
- Our guides are certified as cave divers and have a minimum level of Divemaster.
- In cenotes, the guide’s experience is everything.
Are there age or health restrictions?
- Minimum age: 10 years
- Some medical conditions apply (asthma, heart problems, pregnancy, etc.).
- That’s why a medical form is always filled out before diving.
